AADE - Independent Authority for Public Revenue

Ανεξάρτητη Αρχή Δημοσίων Εσόδων (ΑΑΔΕ)

The independent authority in charge of collecting public revenues. It is not supervised by the Greek Government, but by the Greek Parliament. Its responsibilities include  the monitoring and control of the process of certification and collection of public revenues, the issuance of regulatory decisions related to tax legislation in general and the detection of tax evasion and smuggling and informal economy.

It has recently issued a circular that clarifies which properties rented for the short-term are subject to VAT.

EFKA – Unified Social Security Fund

This is the single, unified insurance fund in Greece.

It provides medicines and medical care, hospitalisation and hospital care to all insured individuals and their dependants

(IKA – Social Insurance Institute (IKA) :TEVE -  Insurance fund for craftsmen and small traders (TEBE) and OGA Agricultural Insurance Organisation (ΟΓΑ) have now been absorbed into EFKA)

Property tax imposed on an annual basis. Calculated by multiplying the square metres of the land by the principal tax and other coefficients affecting the value of the property


EODY  - National Organisation of Public Health

Εθνικός Οργανισμός Δημόσιας Υγείας, (ΕΟΔΥ)

This is the operational center for the planning and implementation of public health protection actions in the country and is responsible for the surveillance and control of diseases in Greece. It is supervised by the Greek Ministry of Health. Its purpose is to protect and improve the health and increase the life expectancy of the population.


EOPYY – National Organisation for the provision of Health Services

Illness benefits in kind are provided by EOPYY to pensioners  and employees insured with the Unified Social Security Fund (EFKA) (public- and private-sector employees, farmers, self-employed individuals, and mariners). Also  unemployed individuals and dependants.

Expensive medicines, which are not available through the normal pharmacy network are given out by EOPYY under a specialist’s prescription.
